Position Title: Program Associate

Status: Part-time Contract Position, 1 year

Massachusetts Agriculture in the Classroom (MAC) is a small non-profit
organization that has been working since 1984 to strengthen the connections
between the farm and the classroom so that agriculture remains vital and
relevant in Massachusetts today. MAC provides agricultural education
training, written materials, mini-grants and other resources for
Massachusetts educators. MAC has developed a strong network of educators and
is recognized as a leader in promoting agricultural awareness and education.
By promoting agricultural literacy, MAC works daily to create a new
generation that better understands and appreciates the importance of
agriculture. All programs support our mission to foster an awareness and
learning in all areas related to the food and agriculture industries and the
economic and social importance of agriculture to the state, nation and the
world.

Description: The Program Assistant will support MAC in program
implementation and communications with oversight from the Project Director
and Board of Directors.

Duties and responsibilities will include supporting the following
activities:

* Manage workshops, tours, training sessions and special events including
planning, implementation, evaluation and monitoring for each;

* Coordinate and oversee school garden mentoring at twenty schools;

* Assist the Project Director to research , write, edit and produce School
Garden Guides, Lesson Plans and Volunteer Manual;

* Convene and coordinate activities and communication with the MAC Board of
Directors;

* Establish and maintain regular communication with collaborators by phone,
mail, e-mail and other social media methods, as needed;

* Maintain paper and computer filing systems and databases, support for
mailings, etc.;

* Assist with preparation of quarterly and annual reports as required.

Qualifications:

* Bachelors Degree or demonstrated experience in horticulture; school
gardening and nutrition education; or related field;

* Commitment to MAC's mission to foster an awareness and learning in all
areas related to the food and agriculture industries and the economic and
social importance of agriculture to the state, nation and the world;

* Excellent written and oral communications skills;

* Excellent organizational and proofreading skills;

* Ability to organize time and manage diverse activities and meet deadlines;

* Ability to work independently and with a team; organized and
self-motivated;

* Ability to work with people of various backgrounds including volunteers,
school teachers, farmers and representatives of state and local agencies;

* Experience with grant management and reporting a plus;

* Demonstrated experience in MS Office, Word and Excel. May require database
management skills and reporting;

* Willingness to travel and work flexible hours;

* Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle is required;

* Familiarity with Social Networking (Facebook, Twitter, Blogs) and website
management a plus.

Hours and compensation: This is a part time position with an average 20
hour/week position paying $15/hour. A car and some weekend and evening
availability are required.
